Support and Troubleshooting Quartz Cuckoos

All the manipulations that we describe below must be done with care and delicacy. We cannot be held responsible for any damage. These instructions are intended to help people who cannot come directly to the store with their cuckoo clock!

Please note that we do not offer any email support regarding cuckoo issues.

Set the time: If the cuckoo song does not match the time

Here are two methods to synchronize the number of cuckoo calls with the current time:

1 METHOD
- Remove the batteries from the cuckoo clock.
- Position the hands so that they indicate 12:15 (by turning only the large hands as many turns as necessary)
- Put the batteries back in the cuckoo clock
- Set the cuckoo clock on time (by only turning the large hand clockwise to the correct time)
(This method works, because by removing the batteries, the cuckoo will reset to its original position which is 12 o'clock.)

2 METHOD
Turn the minute hand (the large one) clockwise until 12 o'clock. Count the number of songs (3 songs, for example), then gently turn the hour hand (the small one) to 3 hours. Your cuckoo clock is now synchronized. All you have to do is reset it to the time, with the minute hand (the large one) clockwise, to the correct time. You can turn this minute hand fairly quickly without having to let the cuckoo ring every time.

Set daylight saving time (advance one hour)

– Simply turn the large hand one turn of the dial (clockwise).

Set winter time (go back one hour)

– Turn the big hand eleven times (clockwise) to set it to the new time. Note that on the quartz cuckoos purchased from us, you do not need to wait every hour for the cuckoo to sing: rotate continuously eleven times.

The cuckoo does not come out

Check the following:

- Make sure the batteries are full, and that they are batteries alkaline (important). Alkaline batteries last longer and remain stable until the end, unlike other cheaper batteries which gradually weaken.
- Check the direction of the batteries in the cuckoo: they must all be oriented in the same way (the + upwards)
- Nothing should obstruct the light sensor (dust, hair, etc.). It happened to us that we were brought back a hello because someone had pressed on the light sensor thinking it was a button! suddenly the sensor has entered the cuckoo slightly, enough so that it does not receive enough light to work! … In this case open the rear panel and push the sensor from behind.

Changing the bird block on a Quartz cuckoo

We made a precise tutorial to help you change the bird block of your cuckoo, you will find it on this page.

Method to disable the light sensor (so that the cuckoo sings during the night)

(Valid on older models that have the sensor not integrated into the side button)

Many people like the light sensor that turns off the cuckoo automatically when there is no light. However, for some who would like to keep the cuckoo singing even when it is dark, here is a little tutorial to show you how to turn off the light sensor.

IMPORTANT BEFORE BEGINNING: We are not responsible for any damage caused by following this tutorial! You undertake this operation at your own risk. That being said, the risk of breakage is relatively low :)

Materials required: A cross screwdriver, a small piece of thin wire of approximately 1 cm long

Start by locating where the light sensor is on the front of the cuckoo! then turn the clock over and remove the back panel. Remove the batteries. Locate the back of the light sensor and see where the wires go to the battery box. On most cuckoo models this location is located on the side of the battery box and the casi cannot be reached like this.

Sensor on the back and place where it connects next to the batteries

You will therefore have to remove the case containing the batteries. To do this, we'll start by removing the needles from the front of the cuckoo clock. Turn the hands so that they are both at XNUMX o'clock, then pull gently but strongly at the base of the hands.

With the hands removed, we can go back to the clock and unscrew the screws that hold the battery box to the cuckoo (in our model 2 screws must be removed):

Once the screws are removed we can gently remove the housing and locate the son of the light sensor:

We will bend our little wire to create a contact between the two poles:

wire of iron

Push it deep into the holes so that they make contact with the other wires:

detail-wire small bridge

Once it is in place, you can screw the casing of the batteries to the cuckoo and put back the needles (in the same position that you removed them, so on noon)
