History of the store
from 1902 to today
The story of the store begins in 1902, by our great-grandmother Catherine, who opened the store at the bottom of Avenue d'Ouchy in its current location. The floor as well as the furniture that you can see today date from this period. Oriented haberdashery at the beginning, the store will begin to sell its first souvenirs a few years later with the arrival of the English.

called Grand-Bazar du Léman at its origins, the store will change its name to become the Bazar d'Ouchy towards the years In 1940:

Our great-grandmother after getting married, had a son, Jeans, our grandfather, who managed the store between the 1940s and 1970s.
He himself had Catherine and Paulette as children who contributed to the extension of the story between the 1970s and 2010.
The line continues today with Jean et Matthieu Paulette's children.
En 2007 The store was given its first website – which was subsequently completely updated and kept constantly up to date to this day.

(…) It reminds me of my child's soul! I used to come there when I was little, and today the store doesn't seem to have changed!

When you enter the Bazar d'Ouchy today, you immediately notice its antique wooden furniture and its old-world atmosphere. Few visitors know that this story began thanks to a woman: our great-grandmother, Catherine.
Around 1900, when it was rare for a woman to run her own business, Catherine opened a small shop a little further up the avenue d'Ouchy in Lausanne. She mainly sold haberdashery and sewing supplies.
In 1905, when the current building was constructed, she moved her shop there. She commissioned custom-made oak furniture specifically designed for the boutique. More than 120 years later, this furniture, along with the wooden floor, can still be seen today, bearing witness to the shop's history.
After her marriage, the business was officially registered in her husband's name, as required by the laws of the time. Married women then had very little legal and financial autonomy. Despite this, Catherine continued to manage and develop her business.
During the first half of the 20th century, she faced difficult times, notably the two world wars. Although Switzerland remained neutral, shortages and economic hardships complicated daily life. Catherine nevertheless managed to keep her shop open.
With the development of tourism in Ouchy, the business gradually evolved from a haberdashery to a Swiss souvenir shop, while retaining its family identity.
In 1909, Catherine gave birth to her son, Jean, who took over the store in the 1950s. He then passed the business on to his daughter, Paulette, our mother, who ran it for almost fifty years alongside her sister, also named Catherine.
Today, the fourth generation continues this family story. Jean and Matthieu, who each have children, may one day choose to take up the torch and become the fifth generation of the Bazar d'Ouchy.
